Chris Patching - Bass & Live Sound Engineer

STARS: Aries

FOOD & DRINK: Anything spicy (Curry, Chinese, Thai, Kebabs etc), Pizza, Burger King, Cadbury's chocolate... Real ale - ANY, Lager (if no real ale), Diet Coke. ...er that's it

TV & FILM: The Bill, Time Team, Scrapheap Challenge, Fast Show, Eurotrash, Anything on TV at 01:00am after a gig (especially the shopping channels!).
HATE:- Reality TV. Soaps (except The Bill), Make-overs of all types.

OTHER INTERESTS: Not many really - biggest one is Amateur dramatics, (for Panto for Maldon Pantomime Society @ www.mapspanto.org.uk), which leads to (in true 'smashy-n-nicey" style)... Chair-ity work (but I don't like to talk about it mate). Oh, go on then.... walking, British landscape/geology, cycling (for pleasure) - except when I fall off...
Real ale - (but not in a stereotypical way) - I just like the taste over the other s**t that's out there. Don't forget, I drink the amber nectar as well.
Watching re-runs of "Are you being Served" - (not really).

BIOG - Self taught. Started playing at school 1965 (dinner-time music club) . Ended up on bass because I was worst 6-string player in the group (no change there then). Many 'mates' bands doing birthdays, youth clubs etc. Mainly playing Rock - Hendrix, Deep Purple etc. Started getting paid for it, so joined 'real' bands doing working men's clubs - Mainly pop & chart stuff. Probably been in 10 or so different line-up over the years (30?) - not many I know, but there was a LOT of work on the WMC circuit - Why change?

Recent:

A couple of 'quality' covers bands, doing beach-boys/pop/disco/soul etc. Girl singers etc., leading to ARIZONA in 1998 Have re-discovered my blues roots and am active on the Thames Delta circuit with The HEATERS (running Newcrawdaddy Club) + 'depping' with several local Blues bands as required - (am I the only Bass player in Essex, or just the cheapest?). I'm also involved in the AMDRAM music scene. I could name the bands if you want, but it would mean much. Played in the Kenny Ball band (got a grainy Pic to prove it), opened for Dr Feelgood, Stan Webb & Chicken Shack, Commitments, Gary Booker (inc. most of Clapton's band) + hundreds of blooozers you've never heard of. Played several major Blues festivals in the UK e.g. Upton Tring, Burnley. Session bassist for local songster Roy Mette's last Album (don't know what it's called). Guested on many other projects that never made it past the studio door.

Future:

I haven't lost the 'buzz' of performing - and cannot foresee when I will (barring incapacity / injury / death). ARIZONA is the most talented crew I've worked with, and the one of the most friendly on and off stage. I want to play with as many musicians as I can - both talented or not - so I can continue learning and impart some of my skills? to others. Play until I'm not wanted any more. I would also like to work with the poor, cure all known diseases, and solve the world's problems.

INFLUENCES:

Who, Hendrix, Deep Purple, Cream, Level 42, Stanley Clarke, Colin Hodgkinson (Alexis Corner bassist), S.A.H.B., Tamla Motown + I've got a Blue Peter Silver badge somewhere.
